Data points

KategoriakEnglish

A data point is a point or mark on a statistical graph; by extension, it also refers to the data corresponding to that point. Generally, data points refer to the data, observations or measurements of an element or unit of observation, that is, to individual data series. For example, if in a point cloud or scatter diagram we have the age of the workers on the X axis and a productivity indicator on the Y axis, each data point will be made up of the age and the productivity indicator of each worker. .

Data points, considered as data for each observation unit, can be represented and compared with each other in different ways:

  • through a line graph, the line indicating the values corresponding to each data point;
  • in a scatter plot, simply as a point with a Cartesian coordinates;
  • in a point plot, for one-dimensional data points or data points relating to a single variable.
