Social immobility

KategoriakEnglish

Social immobility is the situation in societies with rigid social, political, and legal norms that do not allow for social change, and especially social mobility between social classes (in this case, we say that there is vertical immobility). Social immobility was the fundamental characteristic of the Ancien Régime, as well as of the caste system in India and surrounding countries, even today.
