Arrival distribution

KategoriakEnglish

Arrival distributions in graphical form according to a Poisson process with different arrival rates: the bottom process has a higher arrival rate (lambda parameter) than the top one.

An arrival distribution is the specification in the form of a probability distribution or frequency distribution referring to the temporal moment in which a subject or individual element arrives or enters some place or point. The distribution of arrivals used most frequently is the one that is developed based on a Poisson process in which the subjects or elements arrive randomly in a punctual manner over time according to a given arrival rate. The distribution of arrivals can take the form of a distribution of the number of units arrived per unit of time, or alternatively as a distribution of the time between consecutive arrivals, generally deducting one from the other.
